ICC charge Rabada, faces series ban

Cape Town – Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been charged with a level 2 offence following an incident with Australian skipper Steve Smith during the opening day of the second Test.

Rabada’s first wicket was the crucial scalp of Smith, who he trapped for lbw for 25.

The 22-year-old will face disciplinary action for the vehemence of his celebration, which saw the pair brush shoulders.

With Rabada only one infraction away from a suspension, the possibility of him missing the following two Test matches is yet to be ruled out.

Rabada is reportedly contesting on the basis that it was accidental and he will appear before a hearing tonight.

Rabada took five for 96 as Australia were bowled out for 243 in their first innings at St. George’s Park.

Speaking after day one in Port Elizabeth, team-mate Vernon Philander said it’ll be a huge blow if Rabada gets suspended.

“He would leave a massive hole‚” Philander said.

“He’s a big part of this bowling line-up. Let’s hope that’s not the case.”
